Here's how...
America Online's software
allows you to connect to AOL using your dialup access account from
IOLS via TCP/IP. (Over the Internet from
your IOLS Dialup Access Account.)
AOL also offers a special pricing plan for customers who use AOL via
their IOLS dialup access account.
It's called "Bring Your Own Access" (AOL Keyword:
BYOA)
The "Bring Your Own Access" (BYOA) Plan from AOL is a flat
$14.95 per month for unlimited use of America Online. (Be sure to
check AOL's web site for current pricing)
To switch to the AOL BYOA plan
- Connect to your AOL Account
- Go to the Accounts & Billing
area on AOL at Keyword: Billing.
- Click on "Change Billing Method
or Price Plan" in the Update Your Info section.
- You will be prompted for you AOL
Password. Please enter it and click on "Continue".
- Click on "Update Pricing
Plan"
- Click on "$14.95/BYOA" and
then click on "Select Plan"
- That's all there is to it!
Changing Your AOL Connection
Type
After signing on to IOLS, you need to change your AOL connection setup
to connect via TCP/IP (That's Internet lingo for your IOLS Dialup
Account).
To connect to America Online using your IOLS Dialup Account:
- Connect to your IOLS Dialup
Account. (If you do not have a dialup account with IOLS yet
please register
now or call IOLS at 1-815-HEY-IOLS (1-815-439-4657) to establish your IOLS dialup access account.
- Launch America Online by clicking on
the AOL icon on your desktop.
- On the AOL Sign On screen, click
Setup.
- On the AOL Setup screen, choose the
"Create a location for use with new access phone numbers or
an ISP option and click Next.
- In the Add Location window, type
"IOLS" in the "Name for the location" field.
- Click "Add a custom connection
(for example TCP/IP)" and click Next.
- A TCP/IP location will be created
automatically.
In the future, all you have to
do is...
- Connect to your IOLS Dialup Access
Account as you normally would.
- Open your AOL account as you
normally do
- Click Sign On (Make sure it says
IOLS in the "Select Location" field)
- and you will connect to America
Online over the Internet connection
provided by your IOLS dialup Internet access account.
It's that easy and you now have the
best of both worlds!

Note: If you select this pricing plan
from AOL and then connect to America Online using one of their
AOLnet or SprintNet access numbers, you will incur an additional
surcharge of $2.50 per hour which will be added to your AOL bill.
What is
TCP/IP?
TCP/IP is a communications format for transferring data on a
network. America Online's software lets you use TCP/IP (The protocol
used for your Internet connection) to connect to America Online at
no extra charge. Connecting to America Online with TCP/IP is
often faster than the usual modem-based connection process, and it
will not interfere with your use of other TCP/IP tools like Internet
Explorer or Netscape.
